Fulton's School Schedule Adjusted Due To Ice Storm

Fulton County Schools have announced their operational plans for Monday, which will follow a menacing ice storm in Georgia.

ATLANTA, GA — Fulton County Schools are shifting to a virtual learning day for students Monday, closing all campuses due to a potentially hazardous ice storm that will could slam Georgia this weekend.

The National Weather Service on Friday extended an ice storm warning to include metro Atlanta after Gov. Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency for the dangerous winter storm. The system is expected to bring up to an inch of ice to northern Georgia into the metro.

The warning will take effect at 1 p.m. Saturday and will expire at 10 a.m. Monday.

Monday will also be a remote workday for administrators, school officials announced Friday.

They added teachers will communicate with families regarding "instructional expectations." Remote workers will receive direction from their principals or supervisors, school officials said.

"Employees assigned to safety, operations, or recovery roles will be contacted directly by their supervisor. All employees should contact their supervisor if they have questions," school officials said in a news release.

All after-school meetings, extended day programs, clubs or athletic practices and events are also canceled due to storm threats, school officials said.

School-related activities in Fulton County that are set to begin at noon or later Saturday are canceled. FCS said they may be rescheduled.

On Sunday, no matter the start time, FCS said all activities are canceled with the chance for rescheduling.

"Fulton County Schools is committed to the safety and well-being of our students, staff and families. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in our students’ education," school officials said in the release.
