Gov. Kemp Wants To Take $100M From Reserves To Fight Coronavirus

Gov. Kemp said Wednesday that he wants to pull $100 million from the state's reserve funds to help fight against Coronavirus.

ATLANTA, GA — Gov. Brian Kemp shared Wednesday that he wants to pull $100 million from Georgia’s $2.8 billion reserves to fight against the new Coronavirus.

Exactly how the funds would be used hasn’t been released yet. WSB confirmed with Kemp’s office Tuesday that there are six confirmed COVID-19 cases across Georgia, as well as another 16 presumptive cases. Those need to be confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Kemp formed a new coronavirus task force for Georgia in February. It will assess the state's preparations and procedures for preventing, identifying, and if needed, addressing cases of COVID-19.
