ATLANTA — A suspect who had been wanted on murder, armed robbery and kidnapping charges in South Carolina was arrested by Atlanta Police Thursday night after he had been recently picked up on an unrelated charged and then released in Gwinnett County, police said Friday.

Jamal Coakley, 22, was being sought on a warrant out of Beaufort County, SC, for a recent slaying, robbery and kidnapping there, police said. Authorities said Coakley had come to Georgia from South Carolina and had been recently arrested on obstruction charges in Gwinnett County. Coakley was able, however, to post bond before South Carolina authorities could arrange for him to be extradited back.

Gwinnett County homicide detectives contacted Atlanta police officials Thursday about a location where Coakley may be staying. At around 7:30 p.m., officers found Coakley at a Midtown apartment complex, where a woman allowed officers to enter her apartment, where Coakley found was arrested without incident.
