DNR Ranger Confiscates 526 Bream During Lake Lanier Patrol

Fisherman issued citations.

A Sept. 1 patrol by a Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) ranger resulted in hundreds of bream being confiscated and several citations being issued.

According to a recent DNR Wildlife Resources Division Law Enforcement Section report, Ranger First Class (RFC) Mark Stephens was patrolling Lake Lanier near Burton Mill Park when he spotted an individual throwing a cast net. As a result of his investigation, Ofc. Stephens confiscated 526 bream and issued multiple citations.

  • On Aug. 30, RFC Eric Isom and K-9 Colt assisted in the search for a possible drowning victim.
  • RFC Eric Isom and RFC Mark Stephens participated in an evidence recovery search in a wooded area near Lake Lanier on Aug. 31. The search was conducted along with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
  • On Sept. 1, a young child broke his leg as a result of a boating incident at Port Royale. RFC Mark Stephens responded. The child was treated and transported to the hospital by Forsyth County Fire and Rescue.
  • On Aug. 31, Cpl. Jason Roberson arrested an individual on a charge of operating a vessel under the influence in Lake Lanier.
  • During an Aug. 26 patrol, Cpl. Adam Loudermilk and RFC Mitchell Crump assisted a boater that had experienced mechanical difficulties by towing the boater’s vessel to Little River boat camp.
  • On Aug. 31, Sgt. Lee Brown and RFC Barry Britt documented violations for towing a skier after sunset and operating a vessel with improper lights during a Lake Lanier patrol.
  • During a Sept. 1 Lake Lanier patrol, RFC Mitchell Crump and a GCPD officer issued citations for allowing an underage passenger to ride in a moving vessel without a personal flotation device and arrested an individual for boating under the influence and operating with improper lights.

The Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division Law Enforcement Section Field Operations weekly law enforcement report contains a sampling of events that have taken place statewide in the past week. The Law Enforcement Section is tasked with enforcing laws, rules and regulations pertaining to game and nongame animals, threatened and endangered plants and animals, exotic animals, boating safety, litter and waste control, and other natural resource issues.
