The homeowner evacuated all family members from the house when smoke and fire was seen coming from the garage area.  Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and heat conditions coming from the garage and due to the wind conditions, the fire was traveling from the garage to the living quarters of the home.

Crews established hydrant water supply from a hydrant on Cumming Highway. Approximately 2,500 feet of supply line was laid to combat this fire.  Firefighters got a verbal all clear that all residents were out of the home.

This fire was attacked from the outside of the structure with heavy fire streams  and fire attack hose lines. The bulk of the fire was contained to the two-story home on a basement. The residence has storage buildings and structures around it that were  protected by firefighters from fire damage.

The wind conditions prompted concern about the woods around the house becoming an exposure from flying burning ashes. Crews checked and secured the tree line area. Crews knocked down the fire and have confined the deep seeded fire areas that are more hazardous to reach.

There was no report of any injuries. The family of two adults and teenagers will be displaced and will not be needing Red Cross assistance. The fire caused  heavy fire damage to  the place of origin.

The garage was totally destroyed along with the majority of the living quarters, according to a Gwinnett Fire Investigator who arrived to the scene for cause determination.  The cause is currently undetermined.”
