Neighbor Alerts Residents Who Escape Buford Fire That Resulted in 'Total Loss'

Six residents escaped uninjured; cause of fire being investigated.

An early morning fire resulted in a total loss of a Buford home, according to a Gwinnett Fire media release.

Six residents (five adults and one children) were able to escape the blaze in the 2900 block of Old Thompson Mill Road. They were alerted by a neighbor. The fire occurred before 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20.

The fire destroyed the second level of the two-story home on a basement.

The cause of the fire in unknown and is under investigation.

Gwinnett County fire crews are on the scene of a two-story on a basement residential house fire at the above address.  Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the upper level. Initial information obtained showed that all six residents (5 adults and 1 child) of the home were outside of the home.  Fire and heat conditions were cause for  firefighters to attack the blaze from outside with heavy fire attack streams from the Fire Engines.  The bulk of the fire has been knocked down and crews are working on the hot spots. The entire second level of the home is destroyed by the fire and will be a total loss.

Residents were alerted to the fire conditions by a neighbor. The six residents will be displaced and currently will not require Red Cross assistance. No injuries were reported. This is still an active scene. Fire investigators will conduct a cause determination.
