Skull, Bones Found In Suitcase Were a Woman's, Investigators Say

The woman appears to have been dead for about six months, according to the Gwinnett County medical examiner's office.

BUFORD, GA — The human skull and other bones found in a suitcase along Interstate 985 last week belonged to a young woman, investigators said Monday.

The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's office determined that the remains, found Friday by a Department of Transportation construction worker, belonged to a woman who was roughly 20-30 years old, police said.

The woman appears to have died about six months ago, the report said. It appears that the woman was either mixed race or Hispanic.

At about 11 a.m. on Friday, a construction crew working along I-985, just north of where it splits from I-85, called police.

According to police, one of the workers had gone about 80 yards into the woods to relieve himself when he found the suitcase.

The worker then came out of the woods and told his supervisor.
