What is the Recovery Time for a Total Hip Replacement?

The total recovery time, according to Dr. Charlie DeCook, is 6-8 weeks and offers a step-by-step view of how most who undergo the surgery will progress on a week-by-week basis

On the Twitter account @GeorgiaJoint, Interior Approach Hip Replacement Specialist Dr. Charlie DeCook of the Long Street Clinic has shared a guide to the recovery time for a total hip replacement.

DeCook notes that on average, the total recovery time is 6-8 weeks and offers a step-by-step view of how most who undergo the surgery will progress on a week-by-week basis:

  • Walking: Immediately
  • Light exercise: 4 weeks
  • Hiking: 4 weeks
  • Work: 4-6 weeks
  • Golf: 8 weeks
  • Running: 8 weeks

Among the towns listed in Dr. DeCooke's post were #BufordGA, #SuwaneeGA and #DuluthGA, but it turns out that the Longstreet Clinic has a number of locations throughout Gwinnett County, Northeast Georgia and the Metro Atlanta area.

Specifically regarding Buford, Longstreet Clinic Marketing Director Julie King said that the community is "growing our practice as the community grows in Buford."
