CANTON, GA -- An 18-year-old Canton man has been charged with burglarizing two businesses in downtown Canton.

Sergio Villatoro was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on Thursday, Dec. 7 on two counts of commercial burglary in connection with incidents reported earlier in the month.

Responding officers determined the safe belonged to Dr. Greg Elwell's Family Dentistry at 24 Waleska Street Suite 200. That medical office was also the victim of a burglary reported during the early morning hours of Dec. 1.

Detectives discovered an unknown subject forcibly entered both establishments by shattering their windows, the department said. They were also able to learn that this person suffered an injury, as there was blood present at both crime scenes.

At this time, Canton police say a laptop, hard drive, and money was taken from the printing shop while a checkbook and camera were stolen from the dental office.

After collecting evidence and conducting follow-up interviews, Canton police note they were able to tie Villatoro to the incidents as well as at least one entering auto incident.

Canton police add the investigation remains active, and anyone who has information is asked to call 9-1-1 or the department at 770-720-4883.
