4 New Officers Join Canton Police Department

The officers were sworn in on Thursday, March 29 at Canton City Hall.

CANTON, GA — Four new recruits were sworn into the Canton Police Department late last week at Canton City Hall.

The officers took their oaths of office on Thursday, March 29 from Municipal Court Judge Tom Roach, and each cop was given a new badge.

Family, friends and other members of the Canton police force were in attendance to show their support for the new officers. Officers Erin Leonard, Michael Shaw, Zachary Sherer and Christopher Cochran each successfully completed the officer training course at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Rome.

Leonard served as class president and Cochran was vice-president. Shaw was a proud member of the class Color Guard.

"We are very proud of our new officers and look forward to them gaining more experience in our Field Training Program," said Police Chief Mark Mitchell. "We feel they are an excellent fit for our organization and community we serve. They all have the right attitude, mindset and heart to engage and protect this great city."
