9 Graduating Seniors Named 2018 Georgia Scholars
Student granted with this honor have carried exceptional academic course loads and have participated in various extra-curricular activities.

CANTON, GA — Nine graduating seniors in the Cherokee County School District have been named 2018 Georgia Scholars, a top honor awarded to a small group of students by the state.
The Georgia Department of Education identifies and honors high school seniors who have achieved excellence in school and community life with this prestigious title, which only 208 seniors statewide have earned this year. Georgia Scholars receive a special diploma seal.
Cherokee County's 2018 honorees are:

- Cherokee High School: Camryn Callaro, Lane Cannon
- Creekview High School: Alexandra Kaye, Andrew Reisinger, Lauren Scott;
- River Ridge High School: Claire Chen
- Sequoyah High School: Patrick Ballance, Loren Cagle and Madeline Doerr.

Students who earn this recognition have carried exemplary high school course loads and performed excellently in all courses, and successfully participated in interscholastic, community and extra-curricular activities.
“Students receiving the Georgia Scholar recognition are truly well-rounded,” State Superintendent of Schools Richard Woods said. “They’ve engaged in extracurriculars, worked hard in a broad range of academic subjects, served their communities and grown as leaders. A true education encompasses more than just the traditional ‘core’ subjects, and these students exemplify that.”

Cherokee County's Georgia Scholars will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent Dr. Brian Hightower at the board’s May 17 meeting.
