9 Killed In Crashes During New Year Travel Period
Local agencies reporting deaths were Richmond County, Fulton County, Marietta and DeKalb County police.

CANTON, GA — Nine people were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the 2017-18 New Year's holiday travel period, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The 78-hour travel period began Friday, Dec. 29 and ended late Monday, Jan. 1.
Across the state, troopers investigated 330 traffic crashes that resulted in 137 injuries and 4 fatalities. In addition to the traffic crash investigations, 231 people were arrested for driving under the influence, while 6,542 citations and 10,680 warnings were issued.
Local agencies reporting traffic deaths during the holiday period were Richmond County Sheriff's Office, Fulton County Police Department, Marietta Police Department and Dekalb County Police Department.

For the 2016-17, travel period, troopers investigated 536 crashes with 223 injuries and eight fatalities. The total number of fatal crashes during this holiday period was 10, with 11 deaths. Troopers investigated seven of those fatal crashes.
