Abandoned Home Destroyed In Fire
Cherokee County official say there's a "high possibility" that the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
CANTON, GA -- A home in eastern Cherokee County has been reduced to ash after a fire Monday evening tore through the structure.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 1 to the fire on Cloud Circle, which sits off S.R. 20/Cumming Highway in the Free Home community.
An initial call into Cherokee 911 dispatchers indicated neighbors "could see a fire at the bottom of Cloud Circle," Cherokee County fire said in a press release.

The callers later advise that the fire was coming from an abandoned structure on the road. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the one-story house engulfed in flames and later reported the structure had collapsed.
Battalion Chief Dan Floyd said there was a "high possibility" that the house fire could have started from a lightning strike.

There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
