Amicalola EMC Donates Scholarship Funds To Reinhardt University

The money would be used by students whose households are served by the electric membership corporation.

​Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation recently donated $8,000 to Reinhardt University.

The donation would used for scholarships to students whose households are served by the EMC. The Amicalola EMC Scholars Funds will be distributed in $1,000 increments to students who are attending Reinhardt and need financial assistance with their education.

A $1,000 donation was also given to A DAY for Reinhardt.

“These generous gifts from Amicalola EMC will enable us to grant awards to students who need help to attend Reinhardt,” said JoEllen Wilson, vice president for the office of advancement. “We are very grateful this business is willing to reach and invest in the community.”

The students, who are all residents of Jasper, chosen to receive the scholarship for 2014-15 include: Benjamin Barber, Brittany Bryan, Kristen Chester, Dylan Childers, Corey Cunningham, Aries Johnson, Jayden Mills and Jenny Wehunt.

Each student will receive a $500 scholarship for both fall and spring semesters, totaling $1000 in scholarship funds per student.

The funds for scholarships are awarded from Amicalola EMC’s unclaimed property account established by state law that allows an electric membership corporation to donate capital credits presumed abandoned if the funds are used for education purposes in the EMC’s service area.

Created in 1988, the A DAY for Reinhardt campaign is an annual effort to provide support for Cherokee County students attending Reinhardt. A DAY helps to fund the University’s Cherokee County Grant Program, which gives eligible students the opportunity to receive as much as $8,000 during their four years at the University.

Since A DAY’s inception, more than $3 million in Cherokee County grants have been awarded to local deserving students.
