Canton To Discuss Fire Services, I-575 Speed Limit, Brown Park Restrooms

The Canton City Council has a packed agenda for its Thursday, Jan. 8 meeting.

The Canton City Council is set to tackle a myriad of topics during its Jan. 8 meeting.

The city’s meeting, which will be the first meeting of 2015, will begin at 6 p.m. at Canton City Hall.

Topics on the agenda include discussions of Brown Park restrooms, a proposed intergovernmental agreement with Cherokee County to operate the northwest fire station, a proposal to create a Canton Historic Preservation Commission, repairs to the Canton Creek Bridge, an automatic aid agreement with Cherokee County in relation to fire services, an update on city priorities and a proposal by the Georgia Department of Transportation to raise the speed limit on I-575 from S.R. 5 Business to the city’s northernmost limits from 65 to 70 miles per hour.

Council member Farris Yawn will discuss a proposed change to the City Charter that addresses the filling of vacancies on the council.

The complete agenda can be viewed on the city’s website. City Hall is at 151 Elizabeth Street and the meeting will take place in the Council Chambers on the third floor.
