Canton Firefighters Ace Test, Receive Promotions

Two firefighters in the Canton Fire Department were recently promoted.

Sgt. Tony Simmons was promoted to the rank of lieutenant while firefighter Jody Clark rose to the rank of sergeant.

A promotion test for the positions of lieutenant and sergeant was held on Dec. 3-4. The rigorous testing consisted of multiple sections, including a timed written test and a practical that corresponded with each position.

Testing participants for the lieutenant position had to successfully command a fire scenario and testing participants for the sergeant’s position had to demonstrate their ability to operate a fire apparatus during the fire scenario.

At the completion of the testing, both Simmons and Clark were promoted to their respective positions.
