Canton Home Heavily Damaged In Fire

A home in Canton suffered extensive damage in a fire that broke out just before daybreak on Thursday.

Crews with Canton Fire Department and Cherokee County Emergency Services responded to a call of the fire at a home on East Killian Street around 5:15 a.m. Oct. 29.

East Killian Street is located off Scott Mill Road east of Marietta Road.

Firefighters arrived at the home to find flames coming through the roof of the house, Cherokee County Battalion Chief Johnny Wilkins said.

Firefighters were concerned at the beginning that someone could be inside, but no one was located inside the home after an initial search.

Cherokee County fire said the interior of the one-story house was “basically gutted by the fire.” The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire remains open and active.
