Canton Resident Headed To Miss Georgia Pageant
This scholarship competition offers opportunities for outstanding young women.
I admit I have been a fan of the Miss America pageant since I was a little girl. It was an annual event for my mother and me. We would watch it together as we joined the collective viewing audience. We became amateur judges, critiquing everything from swimsuit to evening gown, trying to determine the winner. For two consecutive years our state representatives won the national title. It was exciting to experience it, even if it was from the distant vantage point of our small living room!
This year I have the unique opportunity to root for a candidate that I know personally! We met 18 months ago at the Holly Springs Fall Festival. She was a booth vendor selling her art and CD’s to raise money for college tuition. I purchased an original painting with trees and steps to the beach because it reminded me of a recent trip to Tybee Island. It was the beginning of a new family friendship.
At my request she performed for our STEAM night at the elementary school where I taught General Music. Everyone who attended could tell this was an extraordinary young lady.

Victoria Hill of Canton is the epitome of the modern young woman. Poised, confident, and articulate, she has a resume’ that is packed with a life of purpose and meaning. Somehow she maintains a genuinely humble spirit along with accomplishments in academics, athletics, and the arts. Her platform is focused on helping girls find their footing as they leave the foster care system.
