Canton Man, 18, Charged With Entering Auto

An 18-year-old Canton resident has been arrested in connection to a string of thefts from vehicles in a subdivision in the southern part of the city.

The agency has charged John Gregory Peck, 18, with five counts of entering auto, criminal trespassing and possession of marijuana, according to its Facebook page.

Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office said Peck remains at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $8,700 bond. Jail records also show Peck was booked into the facility on a possession of drug-related objects charge.

The arrest follows reports of numerous thefts from vehicles in The View at Holly Mill subdivision, which is located off Prominence Point Parkway, relayed to police around 5 a.m. Monday, June 1.

Officers arrived into the neighborhood and arrested Peck. Canton police also said detectives could link Peck to four additional incidents in the area.

The case remains under investigation and anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the police department at (770) 720-4883.

Canton police have also shared the following tips to reduce your chances of becoming a victim of entering auto:

  • Always lock your doors.
  • Spare car keys should not be stored in or on your car.
  • Don’t forget to close windows and sunroofs.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in the vehicle.
  • Park in a well-lit parking areas.
  • Consider installing a car alarm or security device.
  • Do not leave items on the passenger seat.
  • Never hide expensive items under the seat.
  • Do not leave any important documents in your car.
