The agency states it’s working hard to reach out to all citizens and neighborhoods in the city.
With that in mind, the agency next week will host a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23 at First Baptist Church of Canton.

Chief Mark Mitchell and members of the department’s staff will discuss its goals with connecting to the community and hold a question and answer session with residents.
“I want everyone to know, I believe our agency needs to reach out to professionally and equally serve each segment of our community,” Mitchell said. “With recent events around the country that have caused serious tension between law enforcement and their communities, I think it is important for this agency to connect with our citizens in an effort to strengthen trust and our relationships with the public we serve. This will pay important dividends in the future and allow us to effectively address criminal activity and public concerns.”
Residents will be allowed to also express any concerns and issues they may have to higher ranking officers with the department.
Community Outreach Officer Pacer Cordry added it’s also important for officers to ”listen to the needs of the community and address their issues and concerns.”
“The police department can do what it thinks is best for the community, but until you really listen to the community and what they have to say, you are only doing half the job you should be doing,” he added.
First Baptist Church of Canton is located at 1 Mission Point.
