Canton Police Hiring New Officers

The Canton Police Department is looking to bolster the number of officers patrolling the streets and serving the community.

The agency will host a Police Recruitment Program from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 at Canton City Hall.

Resident interested in attending the program should arrive no later than 3 p.m. Attendees will be shown a presentation outlining the department’s mission statement, organizational structure, new equipment, current programs and an overview of the newly organized Operations and Support Services Bureau.

You will also be briefed on hiring standards, the process and employee salary and benefits. To be considered for employment, the applicant must meet these minimum qualifications:

• Be at least 21 years old for a sworn position and 18 years old for a civilian role;
• Have a high school diploma or GED;
• Have a valid driver’s license;
• Honorable discharge from the military (if applicable); and
• No adverse driving record

The hiring process will include an extensive background check, oral interviews (based upon a conditional offer), voice stress examination, medical exam and drug screening, physical agility test and psychological evaluation.

Chief Mark Mitchell said the Canton Police Department is excited to host this first-ever event, as the agency seeks to attract the most professional, viable, diverse and community-oriented candidates who will best fit the department.

“The agency is working hard to build a team that strives to connect with our citizens, protect our public, supports each other and works together to improve the quality of life for our community,” he said.
