The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events, or CRASE, seminar will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 at First Baptist Church of Canton.

This course is designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center located at Texas State University.

Agency instructors will be teaching material designed to provide strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.

Seating will be granted on a first come, first serve basis. Children are welcome to attend but parental guidance is strongly recommended, as some of the presented material will contain scenes that are sensitive to some viewers.

“Last month, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office graciously hosted a CRASE train the trainer class for our instructors along with instructors from the Woodstock Police Department and Holly Springs Police Department,” said Police Chief Mark Mitchell. “This meeting ensured that all law enforcement across Cherokee County is on the same page as we educate our citizens on how to respond and react to an Active Shooter incident.”

First Baptist Church of Canton is located at 1 Mission Point Drive. For additional details call (770) 720-4883 or email Sgt. Scott Hoffman at scott.hoffman@canton-georgia.com.
