Shawn Stephen Roberts, 44, is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. He was initially arrested in March by detectives with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office on theft by deception and exploitation of an elder person charges, spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said.

Baker said Roberts was released on bond for those charges, but arrested April 8 by Woodstock police on warrants secured by a resident for exploitation of an elder person and conversion of payment for real property improvement charges.

A roofer by trade, Roberts allegedly made deals with residents to complete work on their homes. However, the sheriff's office contends Roberts took the money from homeowners and never followed through with the jobs.

In once instance, a resident gave Roberts an $8,500 check for his services, but never saw the return on his investment, according to a sheriff's office incident report.

In another report, a resident told deputies he paid $5,845.82 to Roberts and never had the work done on his home.

The victims in the two aforementioned cases are 74 and 87 years old, the sheriff's office added. Roberts remains held with a $44,000 bond.

If anyone believes they may have been a victim of Roberts' alleged actions and have not contacted enforcement, call the Cherokee Sheriff's Office at 770-928-0239.
