Canton Rotary Club Honors 2 Cherokee Firefighters

2 firefighters from Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services were honored by the Canton Rotary Club.

CANTON-SIXES, GA - From Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services: Two Cherokee County Firefighters were honored by the Canton Rotary Club at the third annual Public Safety Luncheon held this past Tuesday. Numerous public safety officials, family members, and friends filled the Bluffs in Canton to honor those that put their lives on the line every day for the safety of Cherokee County.

Lt. Matthew Richter received the Col. George Bailey Distinguished Leadership Award. The distinguished award was named for Canton Rotarian, Colonial George Bailey. The award recognizes an individual who has or currently serves in our armed forces for their superior leadership and actions that have elevated the military service and public service profession through “Service Above Self”, and who has exhibited the consistent dedication and commitment to the ideas of Rotary and commitment to public service by demonstrating a devotion to help raise public service to greater heights.

Jim Laughlin, a Cherokee County Fire Instructor, received the Public Safety Employee of the Year Award. Laughlin was honored for going above and beyond the call of duty with the fire service in Cherokee County.
