Canton-Sixes Gas Prices: They Keep Tumbling Down

As the national average heads toward sub-$2 prices for the first time in nearly 6 years, local consumers feel the ease at the pump.

Gas prices in Georgia keep tumbling down, according to AAA’s weekly fuel price brief.

Entering the week, the average price per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline fell nine cents in Georgia, from $2.10 to $2.01, according to AAA figures. The national average fell seven cents to $2.07.

The average in metro Atlanta was also down 10 cents to $2.03, as of Sunday.

“The national average could be $2 or less by this time next week,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for the AAA Auto Club Group. “Gasoline has been falling at a rate of about 1 cent a day and that trend is likely to continue in the next seven days.”

If it happens, this would be the first time the national average would be under $2 in nearly six years (March 2009).

Gas prices under $2 are already seen all over metro Atlanta, Canton and Cherokee County.

AtlantaGasPrices.com listed several gas stations in the Canton-Sixes area with regular unleaded gas less than two bucks a gallon Monday morning, including:

  • Chevron, 3255 Marietta Hwy & Univeter Rd: $1.91
  • Chevron, 50 Riverstone Pkwy & Waleska St: $1.93
  • Chevron, 11429 Bells Ferry Rd & Butterworth Rd: $1.93
  • RaceTrac, 9665 Knox Bridge Hwy near Marietta Hwy: $1.95
  • RaceTrac, 1465 Riverstone Pkwy & Milton Dr: $1.95

On Sunday, there were 24 states with an average price below $2 a gallon. Georgia and Ohio both shared an average of $2.01, and will likely fall below the $2 threshold within the next couple of days.

The average price in Georgia of $2.01 fell 9 cents in the past seven days, which is 43 cents cheaper than a month ago, $1.20 less than the average price this time last year. The average price in Florida was $2.14 on Sunday, 9 cents cheaper than a week ago, 40 cents less than a month ago, and $1.24 below the average price this time last year. The Tennessee average of $1.91 is 6 cents cheaper than last week, 40 cents less than a month ago, and $1.19 below the average price this time last year.
