Mayo was last seen by her boyfriend around 8 p.m. Saturday after riding a four-wheeler in the wooded area.

Grier stated Mayo’s vehicle “had gotten stuck in the mud and appears she began walking out of the woods without a cell phone or a light source.”

Sheriff’s deputies, search and rescue teams and a helicopter from the Georgia State Patrol searched the area for Mayo throughout the evening.

However, Grier said “Mayo used a lighter for illumination until it ran out of fluid and waited in the woods until there was daylight.”
