Chattahoochee Technical College celebrated its graduates with a drive-thru graduation ceremony held Thursday, Dec. 17, at the North Metro Campus in Acworth.
Nearly 200 of the college’s 640 fall semester 2020 graduates participated in the ceremony, which was held outdoors because of health and safety concerns associated with the coronavirus pandemic. The drive-thru graduation ceremony involved a parade of cars through the center of campus. Each graduate had a turn to exit their vehicle before a crowd of cheering Chattahoochee Tech faculty and staff, all of whom were socially distanced and wearing face masks. One by one, each graduate walked down a red carpet as their names were announced. Then each graduate posed for a photo with Chattahoochee Tech President Dr. Ron Newcomb.

“We are all so proud of how our students persevered through a difficult year to complete their education,” said Dr. Newcomb. “They have gained real-world career training that has prepared them to serve local workforce development needs, even during these challenging times.”
Well over 100 of the Chattahoochee Tech graduates in December 2020 had already completed a bachelor’s or graduate degree at another college. The most popular areas of study for graduates were medical career programs, which included Nursing, Medical Assisting, Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) and Radiography. These graduates will step right into jobs as essential healthcare workers to serve the community during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Popular programs of study for December 2020 graduates also included Welding & Joining Technology, Accounting, Cybersecurity, Networking Specialist and Computer Programming.
More than half of the fall semester 2020 Chattahoochee Tech graduates were from Cobb County, with 131 graduates from Cherokee County. There were 158 graduates representing Bartow, Paulding and Pickens counties, and 56 graduates from Fulton County. Included among all of the graduates were 51 students who completed their programs of study as 4.0 honor graduates.
