Cherokee Boy, 5, Run Over By Father's Lawnmower

The child suffered severe injuries to one of his legs and arms and cuts to his toes and fingers in the accident, which occurred Sunday.

A five-year-old boy is recovering from injuries he sustained after his father accidentally ran over him with a lawnmower.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services on Sunday responded to the incident at 550 Henry Scott Road in unincorporated Ball Ground just after 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28.

According to the agency’s press release, a man was cutting grass in the yard on the property when, as he was backing up, his five-year-old son “came up expectedly from behind.”

“The lawnmower ran over the boy, resulting in severe injuries to one of his legs and arms and cuts to his toes and fingers,” said Cherokee Fire spokesperson Tim Cavender.

EMT’s and paramedics placed the child into an ambulance and transported him to Dwight Terry Park where a helicopter flew him to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for treatment. Cavender said the child was conscious and alert as he was being transported to the helicopter landing zone.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, but Cavender stated no charges are expected to be filed.
