Cherokee Charter Academy’s Pink Out Day was a Success!

October is nationally known as Cancer awareness month. During this month, many people participate in many events to show their solidarity and support. One of the ways this is done is by donning the color Pink.

On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, Cherokee Charter Academy held its annual Pink Out Day. Pink Out Day is a day where all students and staff are encouraged to wear pink for a donation of $1. Students and staff fully supported the cause by wearing pink shirts, hats, socks, jackets, and even paper pink head bands.

All the money raised gets donated to The Susan G. Komen Organization. The Susan G. Komen Organization helps people, with breast cancer, find cures to help them live longer. The organization was founded by Nancy G. Bricker (sister of Susan G. Komen) in 1982.

Nancy G. Bricker decided to start the organization in 1980 because at the age of 36, her sister Susan died of breast cancer. Her promise to Susan was to do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever!

Since the organization has been in existence, its efforts have helped reduce breast cancer by 38% between 1989- 2014 and hopes those numbers will continue to increase. This year, the staff and students at CCA raised $325! The organization won't stop till the end everyone is cured!
