Cherokee Commission Candidates Spend Thousands To Win Your Vote

Incumbent Buzz Ahrens and challenger Carolyn Cosby have both turned in their latest campaign disclosure reports.

The two candidates vying to become the next Cherokee County Commission chair have released their campaign disclosure reports for the Nov. 4 general election reporting cycle.

Incumbent Republican Buzz Ahrens, who is seeking a third term, and Independent challenger Carolyn Cosby both turned in their reports — which were due Sept. 30 — to the Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration’s Office.

In her disclosure, Cosby notes her campaign collected $7,401 during the period between June 30 and Sept. 30. That brings her total contributions to $17,138.

Cosby reports her total expenditures for the latest reporting period were $7,658.39, which brings the total amount of money she’s spent to $13,930.39. Her net balance sits at $3,207.61.

Cosby reported a total debt of $2,500 at the close of the period, which was incurred before the most recent reporting cycle.

For Ahrens, the incumbent reported his campaign brought in $5,006 in cash donations and $200 in in-kind contributions for the reporting period. As of Sept. 30, Ahrens has $71,144.45 in total cash contributions and $4,005.96 in in-kind contributions. Ahrens also reports spending $1,451.30 during the most recent period, bring his total expenditures to $65,725.90.

The incumbent’s net balance on hand stands at $5,418.55. Ahrens notes on his report that he has a total debt of $41,405.05, all of which was accumulated before the most recent reporting cycle.
