Cherokee County E-911 Receives CALEA Accreditation
The purpose of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement is to develop standards based on international best practices.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Cherokee County E-911 has earned national accreditation for the fourth time from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Cherokee E-911 is one of only six 911 centers in the state of Georgia and one of only 58 in the U.S. to achieve this accreditation.
“I am proud of the hard work of the 911 team for seeing the accreditation process through and earning CALEA accreditation for the fourth time,” said E-911 Director Shane Bonebrake. “I appreciate everyone on the accreditation team and everyone in the agency for all the help they provided. We will continue to set the standard of excellence in public safety.”
Public Services Agency Director Dana Martin, who oversees E-911, the Marshal’s Office, Animal Shelter, Radio Technology, EMA and Probation, said she is proud of the 911 team’s effort and dedication that made it possible to achieve this prestigious accreditation.

“This is an extraordinary achievement,” Martin said. “This national accreditation represents our commitment towards professional excellence in serving the public safety agencies and citizens of Cherokee County.”
In 1979, the Commission was created through the combined efforts of four major law enforcement organizations: the International Association of Chiefs of Police, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, National Sheriffs’ Association and the Police Executive Research Forum.

The purpose of the Commission is to develop standards based on international best practices in public safety, and to establish and administer the accreditation process. The accreditation process is how a public safety agency voluntarily demonstrates how it meets professionally recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery.
