School Lunch Hero Day was observed on Friday in appreciation of school cafeteria workers nationwide.

CANTON, GA — School Lunch Hero Day was observed on Friday in appreciation of school cafeteria workers nationwide. To show their appreciation, Cherokee County School Board members, the Superintendent of Schools and his senior staff, and community leaders worked the line of Cherokee County School District lunchrooms.

  • Avery ES: Jason Blakey of Credit Union of Georgia volunteer as ‘Captain Underpants’ at Avery ES alongside School Nutrition staff Kimberly Castle and Christy Lynch.
  • Freedom MS: School Board Member Mike Chapman and CCSD Chief of Staff Mike McGowan volunteer as mystery servers at Freedom MS alongside School Nutrition staff, Kim Dingman,Barbara Sams, Grieshain Dukeman, Lisa Reece, Sandra Collins, Kathy McFarland and Vicki Cronan.
  • Hasty ES: CCSD Executive Directors Julie Little and Charlette Green donned superhero gear to volunteer at Hasty ES Fine Arts Academy with two School Nutrition employees Tabatha Davis and Ashley Edge.
  • Ralph Bunche Center: CCSD Chief Communications Officer Barbara Jacoby worked the line alongside Ralph Bunche Center School Nutrition Assistant Manager Terry Hammack.
  • Sixes ES: Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower talks with students while working the cafeteria line alongside Principal Cindy Crews and CCSD School Nutrition Director Tina Farmer.
