Cherokee County Schools Pathologist Chosen For National Board

CANTON, GA — A Cherokee County school speech and language pathologist was recently selected to the certification board of a national organization, district officials announced.

Dr. Patti Howard, who works as the lead speech and language pathologist for the Cherokee County School District, has been selected to work on the clinic specialty certification board of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

Certification board members are responsible for setting standards for professional clinical certification for speech-language pathologists and audiologists. The board also establishes clinical specialty certification programs as well as recognition programs for support personnel. According to the Association. Board members also determine whether to suspend or withdraw certification if initial applications or maintenance standards are not met.

“Our special education department has a statewide and national reputation for outstanding services, and that accomplishment can be attributed to the hard work of its dedicated leaders,” Cherokee County School District Superintendent Dr. Brian V. Hightower said in a news release issued by the district last week. “We’re so proud of Dr. Howard for this honor, as it shows how highly she is regarded by her peers for the support she provides her colleagues and our students.”
