Cherokee County Senior Services To Remain Closed Through July 20

The Cherokee County Senior Center now plans to reopen on July 20.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — The Cherokee County Senior Center re-opening will be delayed due to Gov. Brian Kemp’s most recent executive order.

The center now plans to reopen Monday, July 20.

The executive order, which was originally set to expire Wednesday, July 1 extends the shelter in place for the medically fragile and residents of long-term care facilities for two weeks until July 15.

“Because many of our clients are medically fragile, we faced a difficult decision,” said Cherokee County Senior Services Director Tim Morris. “We know they miss coming to the center, and we miss them too. However, we feel it was necessary to delay our reopening for the safety of our clients. We look forward to seeing them again soon. In the meantime, the Meals on Wheels and Homemaker Services programs will continue, and our staff will continue to find other ways to keep them engaged.”

Cherokee County Senior Services will continue to monitor and evaluate this evolving situation. In the meantime, citizens should continue to exercise necessary precautions while going about their lives: wash your hands, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
