After the official welcome and invocation by retired Fire Chief and Cherokee County District 2 Commissioner Raymond Gunnin, the Cherokee County Fire Honor Guard made the presentation of colors followed by a musical interlude by the Georgia Public Safety Pipes and Drums.
The event, which was hosted by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, also included speeches from Jeff Rusbridge, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce board chair, Cherokee County Commission Chair Buzz Ahrens, Cherokee County Fire Chief Tim Prather and Assistant Fire Chief Eddie Robinson.
The facility was recently named in honor of Robinson for his dedication in training new fire recruits in Cherokee County.
Robinson moved to Georgia in 1989 and began volunteering with the Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department in 1995. He became a full-time firefighter with the county in 1999.
In 2001, Robinson began serving as the health and safety officer for the department and was later became the division chief of training in 2009.
In October 2011, Robinson was appointed assistant fire chief, making him responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department.
