The students were arrested Monday by the Cherokee County School District’s Police Department, and each was charged with one count of sexual battery, district spokesperson Barbara Jacoby said.

Jacoby stated the agency also charged two students with one count of the lesser change of misdemeanor simple battery.

Jacoby said the arrests stem from an administrative and police investigation into the alleged incidents, which occurred earlier this school year.

However, the juvenile female sophomore student did not report the alleged acts until Oct. 14, Jacoby stated. The four stuents are accused of “making inappropriate comments and/or inappropriately touching the victim at school in front of other classmates,” the school district said.

The allegations also resulted in administrative discipline for the students, the details of which cannot be released due to federal privacy laws.

“The safety and security of students is a top priority for CCSD,” the school district said. “All allegations of criminal activity are investigated, and appropriate disciplinary action is taken. Students who witness inappropriate behavior by their classmates are encouraged to report it to school administrators or the CCSD School Police Department.”
