Cherokee Makes Decision on School Closures

The winter weather advisory for Canton and the county has been extended until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Canton, GA -- Deteriorating road conditions reported overnight have propelled the Cherokee County School District to close for Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Classes as well as after-school and evening activities also are cancelled for the day.

The system made the announcement early Wednesday morning after spending the overnight hours monitoring road conditions in conjunction with the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency.

“While some areas are dry, snow-covered roadways are being reported throughout the county,” the system said.

The National Weather Service extended the Winter Weather Advisory issued for Cherokee until 7 p.m. Wednesday. The advisory means “periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties,” the agency said.

Other delays across the county include:

  • Cherokee County government offices will open at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 10. This includes the Justice Center, court system and Tax Commissioner’s Office.
  • North Georgia Health District and Cherokee County Health Department delayed until 10 a.m. This includes Environmental Health offices and WIC and Children’s Public Health services.
  • Reinhardt University will delay opening until 10 a.m.
  • Chattahoochee Technical College’s Woodstock and Canton campuses will open at noon Feb. 10.
  • City of Canton offices will delay opening until 10 a.m.
