Cherokee In Photos Contest Opens To Residents

The Cherokee Office of Economic Development is looking for entries to include as part of its gallery of photos from areas around the county.

WOODSTOCK, GA – In an effort to showcase Cherokee County to visitors and business prospects, the economic development arm of the county has launched a photo contest to highlight various aspects of the area.

The Cherokee Office of Economic Development is looking for photo submissions of your favorite spots in the county and its cities. These photos can include local businesses, homes, parks and trails, or landscapes -- as long as the photo demonstrate what makes Cherokee County unique to you.

The photos will be compiled in a new gallery decorating the historic halls of the former Woodstock Elementary School in downtown Woodstock. A committee will choose a minimum of 15 photos that will featured in the gallery. The pictures will highlight the community's attraction for a live, work and play lifestyle.

With visitors from around the globe, COED wants to create a way for people to experience all that Cherokee County has to offer during their short visit.

“The people who visit our office are potential investors in our community,” said COED President Misti Martin. “Whether they are corporate prospects, startups, state and regional partners, or locals, they are considering doing business in Cherokee. We only get one chance to make a great first impression. Having this gallery will help support us in telling the story of why they should invest in this place we call home.”

All selected photos will also be featured on COED's social media pages and its website. When pictures are posted on Facebook, viewers will be asked to vote for their favorite photo. The photo with the most votes will be featured as the People’s Choice in the gallery. On Aug. 10, the photos will be revealed in conjunction with an open house of The Circuit and the Cherokee and Woodstock offices of economic development.

“In the digital age, we tend to lose some sense of place,” said Bill Grant, president of Grant Design Collaborative and Canton City Councilman. “Photography connects us to our communities, providing visual evidence of our presence. Photos capture the unique essence of place and record a moment in time that will never be repeated. That's why great images are so powerful.”

Contest entries will be taken until July 12. For more submission details visit COED's website.
