Cherokee Sheriff's Deputy Competes In SkillsUSA Championship

Sgt. Mike Wells, a deputy with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, recently traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the SkillsUSA Championship.

The championship is a national-level competition for public high school and college/post-secondary students enrolled in career and technical education programs.

Wells works full-time for the sheriff’s office and is also working on his bachelor’s degree at Chattahoochee Technical College. Wells was chosen to compete at the national left after winning first place in the state law enforcement division of the SkillsUSA Competition in April.

The competition in Louisville lasted four days, and included contestants from all 50 states who were tested on a variety of skills ranging from basic law enforcement knowledge, constitutional law, a variety of law enforcement scenarios, case law, illegal search and seizures and numerous other topics.

Wells was awarded the gold medal at the end of the competition.
