Cherokee Sheriff's Deputy Saves Elderly Couple From Fire
Brian Lonberg was responding to an alarm call when he noticed smoke coming from a residence on Cumming Highway.

CANTON, GA -- A deputy with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office is being hailed a hero after saving two elderly residents from a fire.
At around 1:43 a.m. Wednesday, Brian Lonberg was responding to an alarm call when he noticed smoke coming from a home on Cumming Highway in the Macedonia community just east of Canton.
Lonberg approached the residence, and noticed the porch and back wall of the home were on fire.

He began to yell and beat on the side of the home, waking the two elderly residents, Robert and Bertha Martin, who were sleeping inside the structure.
Both occupants were able to exit the home safely, and Cherokee Fire and Emergency Services crews arrived and extinguished the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
