Cherokee Sheriff's Office To Use CodeRED Notification Service
The system allows officials to notify citizens by phone, email or text of time-sensitive general or emergency information.

CANTON, GA -- Starting Sunday, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and its Office of Emergency Management will begin utilizing another citizen notification system.

CodeRed, a tool in which the office will be implement May 1, is an emergency notification service that allows officials to notify residents and businesses by telephone, cell phone, text message, email and social media regarding time-sensitive general and emergency notifications.
The types of alerts citizens can expect to get after registering with CodeRED would be missing children or missing endangered adults, unexpected road closures due to accidents, evacuation notices, etc.

Residents would also receive notifications directly from the National Weather Service of weather warnings specific to our county. Citizens can sign up to receive Code RED notifications at no cost by going online.
For citizens with smartphones there is also a free CodeRED app available for download. More than 3,000 government agencies across the United States utilize CodeRED.
Citizens should note that if you have the CodeRED app on your phone and you are in an area where a CodeRED alert is distributed, you will receive that notification on your phone.
