Cherokee Sheriff's Office Wants To Hire Deputies

The agency has appointed a full-time recruiter to help fill vacancies.

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office has appointed a full-time recruiter to help fill vacancies within the agency.

Corporal Darin Downey, a 13-year veteran with the sheriff’s office, will work solely to find “qualified applicants to fill the position of detention officer and deputy,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said in a press release.

Downey will visit police academies, colleges and universities across the southeast as well as attending job fairs looking for applicants. The agency has also recently lowered its minimum hiring age from 21 to 20 so more people will be eligible to apply.

Additionally, applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, an honorable discharge from the United States military (if applicable), no felony or family violence convictions, no marijuana use within the last 36 months and no other DUI conviction or illegal drug use in the last five years.

The starting salary range is set between $37,095.24 and $41,908.23.
