City Council Will Examine Senior Living Development Plans

The 7.8 acre development is expected to bring over 40 full-time jobs to the Canton area and provide 59 housing units for seniors.

The Canton City Council will get its first look at plans to construct a new, 51,000 sq. ft. senior living development off of Highway 140 during their Thursday evening meeting.
The Canton Cove development, which will be built at the intersection of Waleska Road and Reinhardt College Parkway, is anticipated to contain 79 housing units, including 23 memory care suites for residents suffering from various forms of dementia.
According to a document submitted by the Provident Development Group (and attached to this article), the development will sit on 7.8 acres of land and feature walking trails, an activities director, and a full-time nurse.
According to a local benefits summary letter submitted by Provident, the group expects that construction costs will exceed $7.5 million, with many local subcontractors employed to build the facility. Additionally, the group expects that the facility will create 42 full-time jobs once opened, plus additional part-time jobs.
Once construction begins, Provident estimates a twelve-month construction period, and a certificate of occupancy some time in the summer of 2014. Estimates project a 23 percent occupancy rate once the building opens, and full occupancy to be reached some eighteen months after opening.
The Canton City Council will meet to discuss this and other proposals at 6 p.m. Thursday at Canton City Hall. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, Canton-Sixes Patch will be hosting a live stream from council chambers starting at 6 p.m. The agenda for tonight's meeting may be found at this link.
