Cup Up Coffee Closes, Replaced By New Cafe in Downtown Canton

East Main Cafe opened April 2 at 210 East Main Street.

CANTON, GA -- While a coffee shop that opened three years ago in downtown Canton has closed its doors to customers, patrons won't have to make the trip to Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts to get their favorite cup of Joe.

Cup Up Coffee at 210 East Main Street said Monday that it has shuttered its operations, which have been up and running since March 2014.

The venture has been replaced by East Main Cafe, a shop owned and operated by Canton residents Savannah Greenway and Britt Rose.

The space is owned by Audio Intersection, which houses its operations in the same space. Michael Buckner, owner of the business, said he decided to lease the area to a venture that will "compliment the audio and video business that we run."

East Main Cafe, which opened April 2, will take advantage of the "low foot traffic environment" Audio Intersection draws into the shop.

Peter Williams, general manager of Cup Up Coffee, said the last three years of serving the community, friends and those he now considers family "have been some of the happiest in of my life," he wrote on the company's Facebook page.

"Bringing Canton my flair and beans meant the world to me each morning," he added.

Williams said he thought he'd be able to find a new home in the area before his lease expired. That least expired March 31, which forced Williams to shut down the business.

Williams added his loyal customers should stay tuned for news surrounding Cup Up Coffee's future, adding that he's working on a project related to Woodstock-based The Circuit, Chattahoochee Technical College and the Cherokee Office of Economic Development.

Buckner said he wishes Williams the best of luck in his future and added he hopes his plans in Woodstock are successful.
