Comcast: Gigabit Pro Will Be The "Fastest" Home Internet Service

Starting next month, the company's multi-gigabit broadband service will roll out to more than 1.5 million customers in metro Atlanta.

Comcast is responding to a challenge set forth by Google and AT&T in their bids to win the hearts — and wallets — of metro Atlanta customers seeking fast and reliable internet connections.

The company on Thursday announced it will offer a multi-gigabit broadband service to more than 1.5 million residential customers in the metro Atlanta area. The company is expected to roll out the service starting next month, according to its press release.

Comcast describes its Gigabit Pro service as a symmetrical, 2 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) service that will be delivered using a fiber-to-the-home solution. Service will be offered broadly across the metro area and “will be the fastest residential Internet speed in the country.”

“Our approach is to offer the most comprehensive rollout of multi-gigabit service to the most homes as quickly as possible, not just to certain neighborhoods,” said Doug Guthrie, senior vice president of Comcast Cable’s South Region. “We already provide the fastest speeds to the most homes and businesses in Atlanta, and access to Gigabit Pro will give our customers all the broadband capacity they need to stay ahead of future technologies and innovations.”

Comcast’s announcement comes on the heels of Google Fiber expanding to several metro Atlanta cities and AT&T announcing plans to bring its GigaPower network to Atlanta.
