  • The initial term is five years and can be renewed;
  • The county will transfer staffing and equipment from the current Station 9 to the new station;
  • The county will have input in the design of the new station;
  • The county will be responsible for maintaining the station in good repair;
  • Canton will pay for construction of the station; and
  • Canton will ensure the building is insured for loss or damage.

Both governmental entities have been exploring the option of a joint venture for the new fire station, which is slated to be constructed at the entrance of the Laurel Canyon subdivision.

Commissioners will also consider approving a professional services agreement with Canal Wood, LLC to perform timber harvesting on county-owned property at the Cherokee County Regional Airport at a price of $303.42 per marketable acre, to be paid to Cherokee County.

The commission’s meeting will start at 6 p.m. March 3 at the Cherokee County Administration Building on Bluffs Parkway in Canton. It will be preceded by a work session scheduled for 3 p.m. The agendas for both meetings can be viewed online.

Following the Tuesday’s meeting, the Cherokee County Planning Commission will consider two requests pertaining to proposed residential subdivisions.

Ridgeline Land Planning, Inc. has petitioned the county to rezone 42.871 acres on Bailey Road near its intersection with S.R. 140/Hickory Flat Highway in unincorporated Woodstock from R-80 (residential) and NC (neighborhood commercial) to R-20 (residential) for a 61-lot subdivision.

SR Companies, LLC is requesting to rezone 167.50 acres on Batesville Road also in unincorporated Woodstock from AG (agricultural) to R-40 and R-60 (both residential).

If rezoned, the property will be utilized for a roughly 111-lot residential subdivision. The property sits on the north and southside of Batesville Road between Rowe and Earney roads and the Cherokee-Fulton county line.

The planning commission will meet at 7 p.m. March 3 in the same location.
