Couple, Dog Escape Cherokee County House Fire
The fire largely damaged the home located off Old Dawsonville Road in Ball Ground.
BALL GROUND, GA -- A northeast Cherokee County home suffered extensive damage Friday evening in a fire.
Crews with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the blaze around 7:15 p.m. April 28 in the 300 block of Taylor Leigh Court, which is located off Old Dawsonville Road in Ball Ground.
A neighbor told authorities he heard a small "boom" and ventured outside to investigate the noise. That's when he noticed his neighbor's house was on fire, Cherokee County fire said.

The neighbor told his wife to call 9-1-1, and see if the homeowners were inside the home at the time of the fire. The caller noted the fire appeared to be coming from the back corner of the structure and was "traveling up the eave," the agency added.
Both homeowners, a married couple, were able to escape with their dog without injuries.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the two story structure. They began a defensive attack on the fire and also brought in a ladder truck to get high above the roof to spray water. The house received extensive damage and was gutted, with portions of the roof burned off.
Cherokee County fire states the couple lived in the home for roughly 10 years. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
