Couple Robbed At Gunpoint At 'The Falls' In Canton

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is using the incident to remind residents to be aware of their surroundings.

CANTON, GA -- A Canton woman said she and her boyfriend were robbed last week while visiting an area known to locals as The Falls near Brick Mill Road, and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office is using the incident to remind citizens to be aware of their surroundings.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office met with the victim late in the evening on Tuesday, Nov. 21. The woman said she and her boyfriend had dinner, went to a movie and made the drive to the waterfall area in the vicinity of Brick Mill Road and Lawson Drive. The pair arrived at the location around 10:20 p.m. and five minutes later, the woman said two men approached the vehicle with a gun, an incident report from the sheriff's office states.

One subject, described as a heavy set black male, shattered the rear driver's side window with his gun as the other man, another black male with a thin build and short dreadlocks, "demanded all their money and cell phones," according to the incident report.

The woman said the two men took from her car a LG cell phone, brown Coach purse, Bank of America debit card, gift card, driver's license and a blue jacket. She also said the alleged robbers took her boyfriend's cell phone and wallet, which contained cash.

After the robbery, the Canton resident told police she dropped her boyfriend off at home, returned to her house and called police. She initially met with Canton police about the robbery, but those officers notified the sheriff's office of the incident since it reportedly occurred in unincorporated Cherokee County.

On its Facebook page, the sheriff's office said they are investigating the Nov. 21 incident as well as another report of an armed robbery taking place in the same area. In each case, the sheriff's office said the victims were "sitting in their car minding their own business when the suspects approached and demanded their personal belongings."

"We are working diligently to identify the suspects, but want to warn everyone in our community to please be aware of your surroundings at all times," the agency added. "Just because you think you are off alone somewhere does not mean that other people aren't watching you in what you may think is a private place."
