Deadline For 'Greenie' Award Nominations is Friday

The Coosa River Basin Initiative will give out the awards during its Green Gala in April.

The deadline to submit nominations for the Cossa River Basin Initiative’s Greenie Awards is drawing closer.

The last day to submit nominations is Friday, Dec. 5, and nominations can be submitted online. The awards, which will be presented at the organization’s Green Gala on April 2, 2015, will recognize individuals, businesses, industries, local governments and organizations “making extraordinary efforts to protect what is considered the most biologically diverse river basin in North America, the upper Coosa River basin,” CRBI said.

Awards will be presented in the areas of sustainability, innovation, land protection, water conservation and outdoor recreation. All individuals, businesses, industries, local governments and nonprofit organizations living in or doing business in the 5,000-square-mile upper Coosa River basin are eligible for the awards.

The upper Coosa River basin includes the Lumpkin, Dawson, Fannin, Pickens, Gilmer, Cherokee, Forsyth, Fulton, Cobb, Paulding, Polk, Bartow, Floyd, Chattooga, Walker, Whitfield and Murray as well as Cherokee County, Alabama.

“This is an opportunity to celebrate what’s being done in Coosa River communities to improve our quality of life and keep our rivers clean,” said David Tucker, CRBI executive director. “Our hope is that by recognizing these efforts and promoting them we can enlist more people and businesses in similar efforts.”

A panel of experts and CRBI staff will review the nominations and determine the winners. The winners will be announced in mid-January and recognized at the April gala, which will feature a cocktail hour, silent and live auctions and a formal dinner and awards ceremony at the Kingston-area resort.
