Event Celebrates Preservation of Historic Sites

The Cherokee County Historical Society will host the event celebrating Historic Sites Worth Saving campaign on Sept. 10.

BALL GROUND, GA -- Next month, the Cherokee County Historical Society will host an event to celebrate the 2016 Cherokee County Historic Sites Worth Saving List.

The event will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Stripling-Homiller House in Ball Ground. The first list was unveiled in 2009, and featured 12 sites "endangered by neglect, demolition, or inappropriate development," the organization said.

Since then, of these properties, four have been saved, three are in process and one has been demolished.

The victories of saving the homes will be celebrated at the event at the historic home, a roughly 1916 Neoclassical Revival structure, which was one of the endangered sites on the original list.

During the event, guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres on the elaborate porches and view the renovation continuing in the interior.
